The Chinese University of Hong Kong is a bilingual (Chinese and English) and bicultural institution of higher learning founded in 1963. As a first-class comprehensive research university at the local and international circumstances, we aim at both cultivating quality higher degree graduates to serve the increasingly sophisticated needs of society and making contributions to the pool of human knowledge through research. We have a unique college system and 134-hectare natural scenery campus. The majority of the teaching staff is bilingual and recruited from all over the world. Current enrolment of postgraduate students is around 10,074, including a substantial portion of non-local students admitted globally.

To achieve the mission of accumulating and creating knowledge in different disciplines, we offer some 250 programs leading to doctoral, research master’s and taught master’s degrees and postgraduate diplomas through 7 Faculties and the School of Law: Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Medicine, Science and Social Science. CUHK, in accordance with its vision and mission, offers a wide range of research programmes in different subject areas, and strives to make available scope for all academic staff to take on consultancy and collaborative projects with industry. CUHK has always put into practice a liberal policy in research undertakings that allows breadth and depth. Research activities at CUHK cover dimensions laterally to encompass all subjects that are offered at CUHK, vertically to integrate staff research with teaching, and longitudinally to range from upstream research to midstream development.

The Research Administration Office (RAO) is established to support the University's research activities by providing efficient and effective services to the researchers at CUHK, as well as assisting senior management and the Research Committee in the development and implementation of vision, plans and policies for the enhancement of the University's research portfolio; while the Technology Licensing Office (TLO) is responsible for the management and licensing of intellectual properties of the University as well as sponsored research.
